We decided on the Key Lime (meringue) Cupcakes, and they were delicious! I decided to give most of them to Stephanie's small group, and what a response we got; They loved it! Well, my Spring semester has finally ended and I couldn't be happier! I finished five classes with good grades and the satisfaction of knowing I only have two semesters left in Miami Dade. God is so amazing to me, and I am so undeserving.

In the time I've been gone I went to Disney World, visited friends in Orlando, visited my family in Tampa, attended two baby showers, one quince, a mormon wedding, and several Heat game gatherings.

Truth is, I miss writing on here. It's liberating to publish my thoughts and photos on a puny little blog website. Thanks for reading. I will try to keep writing posts every week. I missed you all.

I am literally drowning in homework! I have been M.I.A because I really have no time to do anything :(

I've never had so much to do, in so little time. However, God has still been crazy awesome to me, and it's so refreshing to know He's still in control. Since, I cannot stay on for too long (distraction) I will give you a list of things that have been keeping me sane:

In conclusion, God is good and has a purpose, for every person in any situation. Since I've been so engulfed in school, I have completely isolated myself from the people outside my household. Through this, God reached out to me, and I spent some of my alone time with Him. I have learned so much in the past two weeks, it's insane! I have learned how to trust in Him in a more personal way. He really was my portion, and I hope that I keep my side of the relationship healthy and fervent.

Family+Fair+First times

A co-worker of mine asked me a question the other day: "What do you do for fun? You don't party or drink....so what do you with your free time?" I simply answered, "Well, I hang out with my friends. We watch movies, play games, eat out, and dance. But the people I'll drop anything for is my family."

I spend a great portion of my week with them, and I wouldn't have it any other way.

Friday night, we went to the fair (again)! However this time, my cousin and her two sons, Jason and Matthew, accompanied us. It was Jason's first time going to the fair and he had a blast! He hasn't been to Disney World yet, so this was his first theme park-like experience.

As we go on about our lives, we tend to take things for granted. For instance, we don't realize how fortunate we are to have electricity to turn on the ceiling fan, on a hot summer day. We don't often appreciate the car(s) we have to take us to school and/or work. Among other luxuries we have in this great country, we don't have to walk more than 30 feet to get a drink of water, in most public places.

As I was reading another one of my favorite books in the bible, James, I came across some verses that are always on my mind.

"What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if someone claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save them?Suppose a brother or a sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you says to them, “Go in peace; keep warm and well fed,” but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it?In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead. But someone will say, “You have faith; I have deeds.” Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by my deeds. You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that—and shudder." James 2:14-19

I don't write about this for the sheer pleasure of giving you a guilt trip, but instead I write to you as your sister in Christ and as a citizen of this world. All throughout the bible, there are verses concerning helping the orphans, widows, and in general those in need.

I understand the economy is a worry in most of our lives, but we should still make an effort to help those less fortunate than ourselves. If it means we might have to cancel our Friday night dinner outing, or decide not to have dessert, we should do it. Have faith that God will provide in your life, so that you may help provide for one of his children in need.

Charity Water is a great place to start.

As most of us have heard already, Japan has suffered a major tsunami. Entire cities, towns, and villages have been swept and swallowed by enormous waves of water. I can't even imagine what the Japanese people are enduring. To see your two-story house knocked over like building blocks, and to be worried about the lives of your friends and family, is something that I've never even fathomed.

The only thing I do know, is that God's presence is amidst this horror. I know that our God is in control.

Surely, we don't know the ways of the Lord, but we know that He allows things to occur for a reason. It's so difficult to say this after we've watched these videos of the tsunami, but faith is demanded from us in the good and the bad.

I recently checked my blog stats, and I'm aware that I have some Japanese readers: Whether you're reading this or not, I want you to know that our God is the creator of the universe, it may seem like there is no god in this time, but He's there. Don't lose hope, He's God and He hasn't forgotten you.

Beautiful Adventure

On March 6, 2011 a few of my (crazy) friends and I embarked on a wonderful journey. We are all huge Hillsong United fans, and decided that driving all the way from Miami, Florida to Gwinnett, Georgia to see them was a brilliant plan! And what a trip it was.The drive up was 11 hours long. Our behinds felt like they couldn't bear another hour, and we had just passed West Palm Beach. lol Not to mention I was squished in the back seat with my two lovely friends (Ashley and Cristina). The boys sat in their own seats (Adriel, Luis, Chief, Pastor Brigham). However, that car ride was so much fun. Unfortunately for you, we made a pact that "what happens on the road trip, stays on the road trip". So I can't reveal much, but let's just say it was entertaining and full of great conversations, music jams, and keen odors that will never escape my memory.

Thank God, we arrived safely, exhausted but sound.

Then, it was time. Time to see Hillsong United at the Gwinnett Arena! I was so excited, I thought I was going to pass out. lol The worship was the most amazing thing I've ever experienced in my life. Two and a half hours felt like forty-five minutes. I cried my heart out, yelled to the point that my chest and throat ached (and even then I continued), danced and jumped until it was over. [I got a few strange stares after the concert, but I didn't care] I praised my God and couldn't help but be filled with joy and peace. He is my Savior, I am redeemed. There is no other feeling like it. This is the best I can describe it: My body wasn't fit to hold my soul, that was yearning for the living God.

We were pretty far, but it didn't matter :)

It's not going to be the last intense encounter I have, and that alone gives me so much hope.

I didn't need Hillsong to feel this way, but I appreciate and respect them for being the leaders that God used to awaken my soul.

Anyways,that was just a small recap of what happened on the road trip.

I hope you guys had a great week so far, as well.

I told you he was rad :)

Since it's my second semester in college, I am required, as an ENC1102 student, to write a research paper. My professor, was kind enough to give us the option to write about any Artist's work, in these fields: Music, art, films, architecture, poetry, essays, or novels. I have been battling myself in regards to whether I should write about music and/or film vs. a novel. If you follow me on Twitter, you would know that I am fond and interested in C.S. Lewis' work. If I were to use C.S. Lewis as my writer, I would need to use two of his books to write my research paper, in order to give me enough material to analyze and compare.

What to do, where to go?

As most of you already know, I love to travel. Traveling to North, and South of both the Eastern Hemisphere and the Western Hemisphere, is on my bucket list. I'm proud to say I have traveled and seen most of North America. I've dabbled in Central America (yes, I'm counting Panama lol), and toured 6 countries in Europe.

As a college student, I am hoping to study abroad a semester or two. Where? Maybe the UK or Germany.

Recently, however, an oppotunity has presented itself to me. The highschool that I went to, is sponsoring a tour for 2012...are you ready for this? A tour to visit: Hawaii, Fiji, Australia, AND New Zealand. :: cue gasp:: All for the wonderful price of $3,789. I don't know if you know what the airfare alone would cost, to visit any of these terrific places are, but they're not cheap. This includes airfare, hotels, motor transportation, local tours, breakfast, lunch and five dinner meals. This is a steal and I know it.

Now, if I decide to embark on this fantastic journey, the chances of studying abroad are slim to none. Is it worth it? Ahhh. I've been thinking about this all week.

A friend of mine reminded me recently, that I had been ignoring God's will in a certain area of my life. My friend then shared with me a parable I have heard countless times, but had never really caught my attention until that day. It was the parable of talents:

“Again, it will be like a man going on a journey, who called his servants and entrusted his wealth to them. To one he gave five bags of gold, to another two bags, and to another one bag,each according to his ability. Then he went on his journey. The man who had received five bags of gold went at once and put his money to work and gained five bags more. So also, the one with two bags of gold gained two more. But the man who had received one bag went off, dug a hole in the ground and hid his master’s money...His master replied, ‘You wicked, lazy servant! So you knew that I harvest where I have not sown and gather where I have not scattered seed? Well then, you should have put my money on deposit with the bankers, so that when I returned I would have received it back with interest. "Matthew 25:14-30

Just like my friend kept me accountable to listening to God's voice, so will I. Don't disregard the fact that God has given you a gift. It doesn't matter where you are, in a cubicle or at home taking care of your children ; God has called you to sow the seeds he's given you. Your place in this world was premeditated, don't let it go to waste. Use the talents for the kingdom of God, where it can be put to the best use.

"To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. Here comes the bride...again.

No, I'm not the bride, and don't plan on being one for a while. lol My good friend, Claudia is getting married! This is going to be the second time, that someone my age gets married. Crazy huh? Well if you don't know me, I love weddings. I went to four weddings in the past 10 months! One of which was my sister's, so you can imagine that I know enough about them to plan my own. Again, not for a long time. lol

After my friend and I, "oo" and "awed" over her engagement ring, we started talking business. I visited about ten wedding blogs including: Style Me Pretty , Le Wedding Party , Elizabeth Anne Designs , and so on.

We haven't been able set a date and have lunch over the details, but we talk on our way to school (carpool) and pass notes during out math class (-.-). This is what she's thinking about regarding colors, either a dark teal or a soft lemon yellow (or both!)

These past three years have been a learning process to say the least. Before this, I was a young Christian who thought life would be easier and more pleasant if I simply "believed!". However, I still had a fervor to learn more about this God I thought I trusted, so I prayed for wisdom and patience. Little did I know, those are two things that Christians are reluctant to wish for because they know, God means business. I went through my trials and tribulations alright, and through which, I doubted God and everything He stood for. As time progressed, so my understanding of what I was going through became more clear. God was preparing my heart for what is to come (which is still uncertain).

About a month ago, I wrote a post about what I wondered God would use me for. This had been plaguing my mind for nights. Lately, I've been keeping up with my devotionals, and I've gotten a greater grasp of who my God is. I haven't been reading my bible chronologically like I'm used to doing, but I've been reading different books and different chapters. One night I decided to read Job. It is on my Top 5 list of greatest books in the bible. Although I had heard before of Job's trials, his pain and how God redeemed him in the end, I wanted to read it for myself. My favorite part (like most people's lol) was when God finally spoke to Job after him and his friends had been arguing back and forth. You know God is good at making an entrance when He says:

“Who is this that obscures my plans with words without knowledge? Brace yourself like a man; I will question you, and you shall answer me."

P.S. if I were Job, I'd dig my head in the sand. lol He goes on to say:

“Where were you when I laid the earth’s foundation? Tell me, if you understand. Who marked off its dimensions? Surely you know! Who stretched a measuring line across it? On what were its footings set, or who laid its cornerstone— while the morning stars sang together and all the angels shouted for joy?" (Job 38)

Read the rest of it yourself, it's refreshing to read of God's power. Anywho, this smacked me in the face because I was so quick to question why I was put on this earth , and why I had gone through so much pain. The truth is, I don't know why! And it's not my place to inquire why, it's in God's hands and why should I worry? My only concern should be my relationship with God. Is it growing? Am I being obedient? Have I listened? Have I loved others?

Matthew 6:25-34

“And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29 Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 30 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith? 31 So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own."

This journey is to be taken one day at a time. I might not know what the future holds, but I know who holds it. For now, I will read His Word and meditate. I will use the talent that God has given me to finish my major in Art. If that changes over the next year so be it, this is all part of His plan. Whatever opportunities the Lord provides, I will try to take advantage of and do my best to learn from.

Read your bible, friends! Invest time in the God who invested time to create you, you'll be surprised to what He'll reveal to you.

Sweet-tooth

Occasions have risen, recently, that have called for the creations of yummy desserts! For instance, Sunday night my cousin invited us over to Lasagna. I suggested we make a dessert that we didn't usually eat, so we voted on Strawberry Shortcake (with a twist)!

We made it in ten minutes (or less). For you couples/married/pregnant people, this could make your partner quite happy :) [I forgot to bring my camera, so these images are provided by Weheartit.com]

First, purchase a tray of dessert shells--you can find this in the Produce section of your nearby Publix :)

Picture it without the cherry glaze.

Second, purchase a box of strawberries from your local farmer's market or supermarket.

Chop them up.

Third, get sugar and pour a good amount into the bowl of strawberries, mix em' up and wait till the natural syrup is made. OR! If you're in a rush, add strawberry jam and mix it up! They are ready.

Fourth, purchase vanilla ice cream and whip cream.

Now, you have all the key ingredients to make a beautiful Strawberry Shortcake/Strawberries & Cream

Get a small dessert bowl, place the dessert shell in the bowl. Next, put a scoop or two of vanilla ice cream(preferably two lol). Then, get a spoon and decorate the dessert shell and ice cream with the strawberry glaze! Finally, to top it off, add whip cream.

Not quite, but similar. :)

You should try it, it will make your tummies happy :)

"Pimp with a limp"

My new brother-in-law Danny, hurt his knee recently. To be exact, Christmas Eve. He was playing football with a bunch of little kids (paha) and ended up dislocating his knee. I'm sure there is more to that story, but I just wanted to make it a tad humorous. Point it is, it really isn't funny that he had surgery yesterday to replace his ACL. Not to mention it's important he gets better because of his job(fire fighter) he has to be up and ready as soon as possible. Keep him in your prayers please, he is in a lot of pain. And pray for my sister, she will have to cater to him lol

Ghetto cute-ness

As most of you know, my phone hasn't had a back since the time I lost it at church (it was found without one). However, I'm extremely stingy in paying for things that I don't think I need. So, I've been covering the back of my phone with paper and tape, in order to avoid losing my SIM card and battery. It looked horrible, but I really didn't care. Then I realized I could make it look cute! That's why I found a drawing of a tree in a mix of papers I had in my room, and I used it! I think it's kind of precious in a ghetto kind of way--hence the name of this post lol :)

Recently, I've been thinking about how I never take pictures anymore! It makes me sad because, prior to my busy schedule and insecurities, you didn't catch me without my Nikon D40. Now, it's sitting in my dinning room table, collecting dust along with my mom's centerpiece. I had aspirations once! lol I enjoy taking photographs and editing them, but that took a back seat when I lost confidence in my "work". I added this to my "New Year's resolutions" for a reason...so I will try to start as soon as possible.

If it's in God's will, I'd like to have my own photography business. Nothing serious, just a fun project and if I succeed, that would be nice lol Keep me accountable to taking pictures, please! :)

Fa la la, school started.

Wednesday, was the first day of class for students attending Miami Dade College. It was also the longest day of my life! Usually my hyperboles aren't to be taken seriously, but this one really felt excruciatingly long.

I woke up at 6:45 to be ready to leave my house at about 7:15 for school. My class began at 8am with English and composition 2. My professor is very lively, and makes it seem that this class won't be on my "least favorite class list". Long story short (I was going to go over every class...but reconsidered lol;), I had 5 classes in one day. 8am-4pm. An hour after I finished school I went to work from 5pm-11pm (luckily not 12am). I got home exhausted. I felt a pain in my back, (not to mention sprain ankle still hurt) and pretty much all over my body. I felt like I had a cold. It was terrible, but I know that the only reason I made it through the day was because God gave me the strength. He likes to do that :)
I have a feeling this is going to be a great semester, even with my torturing schedule lol

Two Thousand and what?!

How the eff is it already 2011? This is craziness. Last year, was definitely a keeper for many reasons. So 2011, you have a tough act to follow.
I don't really know if it's the hype or the inconsistency of New Year's resolutions, that rubs me the wrong way, but it just does. Nonetheless, I make them every year...do I usually follow up with them? Not necessarily. However, this is a new year and this provides a great opportunity for me to start on the right foot.[ Speaking of right feet, I sprained mine (a con of 2010).] I go along with this tradition because, the beginning of the year allows me to keep track of my resolutions a lot easier. ;)
Anywho! Here they are:

Read my bible at least 4 times a week (a good in depth read). When I achieve this, I will continue by adding more reading time per week. Slow and steady wins the race :)

2. Eat healthier. I'm aware of the fact that because I'm young I've been able to maintain a pretty slender figure, but in the direction I'm heading...this could change..fast. lol

whyyyy?!

3. Keep my room clean & keep my house clean.

You can't tell me that's not cute, and I hate cats. lol

4. Go on riding adventures.

That's me, about a year and a half ago. lol

5. Take more pictures. I haven't really focused on doing that :/

I cannot believe that my older sister, Stephanie Rachel Montero is getting married in four freaking days! Yes...I'm having a heart attack. Stephanie happens to be one of the most important people in my life. She is my best friend. I'm so eternally grateful that God has chosen to bless her with a man like Danny, and I know that He has great plans for the lovely couple.
I do feel a bit nostalgic considering the fact my sister will no longer be next to me when I wake up in the morning, or sit with me in the morning to eat breakfast, but I'm so happy that she's starting a new life! She's going to be lovely wife who will learn how to cook, decorate the house for random meals, and enjoy spending time with her husband. You already know that I will be in her apartment all the time! lol I won't suffucate her though, she'll get a healthy does of me :)
I just pray that God blesses them for the rest of their lives. That together they will become closer to God by keeping one another accountable. Please join me in prayer, my friends.

It is way too often that I forget my purpose in this life. But lately I've been constantly wondering...am I fufilling God's will? I know that I'm only eighteen years old and a freshmen in college, but I feel like that is no excuse to disregard that God is in the works as I write. I feel like no one else my age feels the same way...am I getting ahead of myself? I feel so different from everyone else around me, it's almost scary. I have this never ending conviction in my heart that I have a purpose that I'm not fufilling. I worry for this world...I worry for people that don't have water to drink, food to eat, and God's warm embrace. The worst part is, I feel like I'm in no position to do anything while I'm studying at Miami Dade. I believe that an education is extremely important, and I'm not comfortable with neglecting a degree. I write these things to not only ask for your prayers, but to better understand how I feel.

This quote from C.S. Lewis encourages me daily to be better the Kingdom of God, while I'm here on Earth. It's so comforting. <3 (it's on my profile lol)

As most of you know, on October 11, 2010 Adriel and I hosted a MuteMath Premier Party the night before the Armistice DVD released. MuteMath had come up with a creativity contest, and which ever party they deemed most creative would win free T-shirts for the entire group. Many people from all over the country hosted these parties, and tried their best at making their parties the most creative.

It had almost been a month, and we were getting antsy! We were dying to know who had won first place. I would check the MuteMath website about three times a day to see if they had announced the winner. I would send them comments on their Facebook, trying to persuade them to pick us. Some of my friends (in particular Amanda Velazquez) would even advertise me like a hot commodity on the market through Twitter. ;) Finally, the search was over. They had finally announced the winners...and we had won.

I cannot explain to you the rush of adrenaline I felt when I received the text from Adriel reading, "OMG OMG OMG WE'RE TOP 5 :D :D :D :D "I immediately took my friend, Sanah's laptop and tried typing in the search bar "myutemath.com...mutenath.ocm.." I couldn't even think straight. I know I sound like an obsessed freak, but I'm not. lol I just love this band so much, and it means the world to me that after all our dedication and support we've given for their music, they finally acknowledged us and think that we're the "Cream of the crop" :)

I would just like to say Thank you for all of you who got excited with us, and congratulated us! Most of you guys were there with me from the beginning, when MuteMath was first discovered. Just look at the concert photos in the entry below. You guys are amazing friends.
Lastly, I'm thankful for my friend Adriel who hosted the party with me. We are the best hosts ever! :D

I heart MuteMath

I know everyone says that but I really do. They have been my favorite band since I went to their first concert in Florida. Yes, I was that little girl in the middle of the mosh pit. I heard people asking themselves and their friends, "Isn't it passed her bedtime?" I was proud to say to myself, "yes..yes it is."

My world was rocked when I heard the piano intro of my favorite song, at the time, "Control". I still remember the butterfly feeling as Darren King started building up to start the first verse of the song. I was in music heaven. Ever since that day, I decided I had to go to all of their concerts in South Florida, and I have (with the exception of the time they opened for the Fray).

About two weeks ago, I received a text message from my friend Adriel, saying that I had to check my email. You see, Adriel and I are official MuteMath fans. We get emails frequently regarding new song releases, merchandise sales, and etc. When I checked my email, I saw a message from them informing us that they are releasing the Armistice tour DVD, and were hoping that fans could host a party in honor of it. So of course, it is of no surprise that we decided to host a party ourselves. We were also informed via email, that who ever has the most creative party will win free MuteMath t-shirts. That incentive was enough to have me fly MuteMath down for an appearance..however..considering my financial situation I was unable to even fathom that thought..so we collaborated ideas for the party. Here are some photos of the MuteMath Premier Party, I hope you enjoy:

I started with decorating, with the help of my lovely sister (and bride-to-be) Stephanie :)
The flags were inspired by the "Backfire" video... I tried to give the party a little industrial feel by using newspaper to make the flags.

I think that their taste in music says a lot about the band's character in general.

Yumm :) I decided that it would be funny to take pictures as the MuteMath members, but I thought it would be difficult to have everyone dress up ...so I made it interesting. We also had a fun photo-shoot with cardboard tv boxes! This was inspired by a photo MuteMath took a while back; they had TVs on their heads...so I thought that would be a nice touch!

As part of the creativty, we thought of a game! I don't know if all of you have seen

the "Typical" music video, but we tried to input a taste of that into our party.

in one minute and thirty seconds.

Soooo for AP Photography, in order to be evaluated I need to send a set of twelve pictures for concentration. It's just a fancy AP term for "pick one subject and one technique and shoot" After picking about three different concentrations, in hopes my teacher would approve, we found one that worked. Thank Jesus. Seriously. I was working with the concept of 'identity through blood line'

It has recently hit me, that my blog is a bit boring. I only show you my photos (and I can only take so much of that, so imagine yourselves) So, I came up with this idea to combine two of my greatest passions into my blog-- photographs and music <3 And maybeee I'll have more ideas later and my blog will become a well rounded site! You know, instead of it being a high school senior's attempt at being noticed, which wasn't my intention but just a disclaimer. ;)

Anywhooo, this is a band that my good friend, Joshua Bazyler, recommended to me-- they're called Vera I'm not going to lie, they are really good. It sounds like a fusion of Coldplay and Switchfoot...In my opinion. Haha don't kill me if you think otherwise. They're from Tallahassee, Florida and apparently are pretty popular over there. So here's a shout out from someone in Miami, I think you guys have talent :)

So, the reason I haven't been blogging for three weeks is because the computer I have at home has no internet (it's a PC). :/ I've been disconnected from the world. However, I do have some updates of what's been going on in my life during my "absence".
First off, my family,family-friends and I went to the Pro Bowl :)

Good times in Tampa

I spent this long weekend with my sister, my brother and my pops :) We went to Tampa for my nephew, Ignacio Alexander's baptism. Here are some photos of the ride there and the occasion:

It was a blast taking them, she was ridiculously nervous at first, but then she finally got comfortable and rewarded me with these shots :)

Screen printing fun...ish

I went around my classroom today in AP Photo (behind my teacher's back ofcourse) and asked them what they really thought of the screen printing process.

As you can see, it is not an easy task! Watching my peers run to get materials while being yelled at, was pretty painful. However, all of our screen prints came out pretty decent for our first time.

I took this picture of my sister for her Fawn blog, and transformed it into a 'Cut Out' format then, printed it onto a transparency. From there I exposed the transparency onto the silk screen that was emulsioned. A couple of painting strokes and Wa-la!

I'm sorry for not being consistent with my new blog. There are a couple reasons why I have neglected it and my readers...
1. School is kicking my butt. The wonderful faculty and administration at Felix Varela thought that having midterms after the break was a good idea. FAIL.
2. College applications ask too much of me.
P.S. SAT/ACT tests suck big ones.
3. Shopping at Publix is a pleasure, but working there...yeah. However, I am grateful God has provided me with a job :)
4. When I'm not doing the things listed above, I try to have a life. Sleeping is my life, with an occasional viewing of comedic sitcoms. ;D
5. Lastly, I am creatively drained. It is temporary, and I plan to change that with this blog.
